THE JANUARY MEETING TO BE HELD AT INTEGRIS BAPTIST MEDICAL CENTER

BUILDING D, LEVEL C, ROOMS J, K, L

THE FEBRUARY MEETING WILL BE IN THE ATRIUM-AUDITORIUM

MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT

Things are going to be a little complicated in this newsletter. Our January meeting will be on our usual meeting day, the third Tuesday of the month which is January 16th over the BIS Monitor.

The complicated part is with our February meeting. Janet Lewis has been able to arrange for the National AORN President-Elect, Sheila Allen, to speak to us. Sheila will be with us on the First Monday of February. This will be a special treat for us.

Because our meetings will be so close together, you will not receive a newsletter before the February Meeting. Please mark you calendar now for BOTH meetings.

By the time this newsletter comes out, my oldest child will be a married man...we have been verrrrry busy!!!

Program for  January meeting

Do you know someone who is looking for a job?

Are you looking for “greener grass”?

Oklahoma State Council of PeriOperative Nurses (OSCPN) along with

each of the AORN chapters of Oklahoma have joined forces to promote

a new employment advertising website for Healthcare personnel within the

state of Oklahoma.

This site will produce revenue for your chapter by paying a commission of 20% to the chapter that refers each job ad. The more ads your institution lists, the higher the commission to your chapter. It is up to each member to promote their organization and to have a voice in what their chapter does with its funds. Please contact your agency recruiter and recommend the site to list Nursing and Healthcare employment openings. Remember to list your chapter as the “referral”.

Please visit http://www.oklahomajobs.org

AORN is offering three years of membership for $165. That is $10 a year off the cost of national dues. Sign up now and forget about paying dues until 2003!

2000-2001 Legislative and

Regulatory Update

The past year has been a busy and challenging time for nursing and health care issues.

Given the continuing rise in health care costs and the shortage of nurses and other health care workers, 2001 promises to bring equal or greater challenges.

AORN’s Government Affairs Department continues to focus on the four priorities recommended by AORN’s Legislative Committee and approved by the AORN Board of Directors in October-2000.

€  Ensuring the supervisory presence of the professional RN in the perioperative arena and promoting AORN’s position that “Every surgical patient deserves a perioperative nurse”; AORN will ensure that all state laws and regulations require an RN only to circulate.

€  Medicare reimbursement for certified RN first assistants (CRNFAs) and third-party reimbursement for RN first assistants (RNFAs) in the states.

€  Supervision and regulation of assistive personnel.

€  Patient and personnel health and safety in the perioperative arena.

AORN will continue to keep its members informed about relevant legislation and regulatory changes and AORN’s position on the issues. For detailed information go on-line at

http://www.aorn.org/govt.

Information also available in the December 2000 issue of AORN, page 1068-1071.
