FROM THE PRESIDENT
I learned a lot at our last AORN meeting with Joanne Dobler, Oklahoma Nurse Assistance Program. It’s good to know that there is help for nurses who are struggling with alcohol and drug dependence. Our next two meetings are on the second Tuesday of the month because of the holidays. Be sure to mark your calendars. On November 14th we will be meeting at the State Capitol for our annual Legislative meeting. I hope to see you there!!!

CNOR/CRNFA ExaminationStatistics From the annual report prepared by PES, it was reported that 2,498 CNOR candidates sat for the exam in 1999. Of these candidates, 1,599 (64.1%) received passing scores. For the CRNFA candidates who were administered the examination, 454 of the 542 candidates (83.76%) achieved passing scores. The passing rate statistics for the CRNFA examination has not changed so far this year. However, the passing rate for the CNOR exam has seen an increase in the pass rate from 64% to 85% as reported in the Spring 2000 CBPN Newsletter. The 2000 recertification period has been entered, and the statistics indicate that out of a possible 7,247 CNORs eligible to recertify, approximately 5,000 did so for a 70% recertification rate. There were a total of 142 CRNFAs eligible to recertify, and approximately 105 completed the process for a 75% recertification rate.

PROGRAM
Loretta Cates introduced our speaker of the evening, Joanne Dobler from the Oklahoma Nurse Assistance Program Organization. She shared that the goal of their organization was to educate Oklahoma licensed nurses and their employers about substance abuse and it’s effect on professional performance. She also acquainted us with the Oklahoma Peer Assistance Program. This is a voluntary, confidential program which assists licensed nurses whose competency may be impaired due to substance abuse and/or chemical dependency.
