BARBARA J. LEWIS, OTR/L,
CHT
American
Society of Hand Therapists
In
order to facilitate timely patient care we have a full-time in-house
certified hand therapist Barbara Lewis, OTR/L, CHT, who has been an
occupational therapist since 1990.
Prior
to joining the Oklahoma Hand Surgery Center, she was Senior Occupational
Therapist at the University Health Partners which is now OU Medical
Center. Well versed and
experienced in hand therapy protocols, Barbara works one-on-one with
patients developing an individualized plan to provide the best possible
therapeutic treatment to patients with hand and arm dysfunction
resulting from trauma disease medical or surgical conditions.
These conditions include, but are not limited to, fractures,
strains, sprains, burns, repetitive stress disorders, tendon and
ligament injuries, nerve impingement, soft tissue injuries, cumulative
trauma disorders, congenital disorders, amputations and arthritis.
Treatment
approaches include custom splinting, heat, cold, and electrical
stimulation, ultrasound, iontophoresis, improving range of motion and
strength, wound care, scar management and manual therapy of the upper
extremity.
In
a very gentle and compassionate manner, Barbara uses her experience and
excellent communication skills daily to return each patient to maximal
functioning as quickly as is reasonable.
Our
hand therapist works closely with each of our hand surgeons as
successful outcomes require careful coordination of both surgical and
therapeutic services.
