10 MOST COMMONLY ASKED QUESTIONS ON BREAST AUGMENTATION
1. Who is a candidate for breast augmentation?
Any woman who wishes to enhance her body contour, feels
her breasts are too small, experiences a reduction in size after pregnancy, or
wishes to balance a difference in breast size.
2. How much does it cost?
Approximately $3800.00 for saline implants. This
cost includes the hospital, anesthesiologist fee and Dr. Padgett's fee. Dr.
Padgett operates in accredited facilities and uses only board certified
anesthesiologists.
3. What should I look for in my Plastic Surgeon?
Your Plastic Surgeon should be board certified by the
American Board of Plastic Surgery. It is also very important that your
surgeon be concerned about the quality of care provided. Make sure your
Plastic Surgeon uses a Medical Doctor for anesthesia and operates in a Hospital
or accredited facility. Your Surgeon should also be willing to listen to
your concerns and help you decide on the size you would like to be. Be
happy with your decision!
4. What is the procedure and how long does it take?
Dr. Padgett will make the incision in the inframammary
crease. This is the best place to hide the incision. She will then
create a pocket underneath the chest muscle or breast tissue and insert a breast
implant. The procedure usually takes 1 to 1 1/2 hours. After surgery
you will be taken to the recovery room for several hours before you are able to
go home. Plan to have someone take you home and stay with you for at least
24 hours.
5. Is the procedure painful?
You will experience some discomfort, swelling, and
tenderness after surgery. But Dr. Padgett will prescribe you a pain
medicine. If the implants are placed under the muscle, expect to
experience the kind of pain you would have with a pulled muscle.
6. What is a breast implant?
A breast implant is a silicone shell filled with either
saline solution (salt water) or silicone gel. The implants used for breast
augmentation are the saline.
7. How long is the recovery process?
You will feel tired and sore after surgery but within
3-4 days you will be able to get up and around and be able to return to work if
your job is not too physical and demanding.
Allow six weeks for total recovery from breast augmentation.
8. Will I have scars?
The scar is short and is hidden in the breast crease.
9. Does breast enlargement affect breast feeding?
Most women are able to breast feed after surgery.
10. Are there any risks involved?
With any surgery there are risks and uncertainties.
Some uncommon but possible risks can include changes in nipple and breast
sensation, implant leakage, wrinkling of the implant, encapsulation of the
implant, infection, bleeding around the implant, inability to guarantee size.
Please read about the breast surgery and be sure to ask your surgeon any
questions you may have.
